contract for the training of INEC
personnel on Advanced GIS analysis. This
is
preparatory to the use of GIS in
enhancing the operations of INEC for
2011 elections.
The Training was declared open by the
Director of ICT, Engr. E. T Akim who

Support Systems Limited
has successfully completed the
consultancy service in a World Bank
assisted project for the National Bureau
of Statistics under the Presidency. SSL
by this project has succeeded in
institutionalizing GIS and GPS
technology at the NBS. The Project
entailed a complete review of the
methods of data capture, processing and
analysis; identifying associated
problems with GIS implementation and
training.
The main task involved: An assessment of
the data and operation process of the
National Bureau of Statistics; a
detailed examination of the sources and
characteristics of data in Nigeria; and
a demonstration of GIS capability in
improving data collection, storage and
analysis procedures.
Global Positioning System (GPS) and
Geographic Information System
Infrastructure such as licenses of
Arcview 9.2 and Geostatisical Analyst
extensions as well as GPS units were
also provided for the bureau.
To ensure adequate human capacity, SSL
also trained NBS staff on the use of GPS
& GIS systems. The following key

Thick Media option) is a high
performance CCD-based color scanner

The 13th Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Biennial International Conference on the Oil and Gas Industry in Nigeria, organised by the Ministry of Petroleum Resources, Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR), Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and some Operators in the oil and gas industry was held at the prestigious Nicon Luxury Hotel, Abuja between November 3 – 5, 2008.
The Conference, with theme: “Promoting HSE Best Practices in a Challenging Environment”, is the largest gathering of HSE professionals in Nigeria and this year’s edition was attended by all the major operators in the oil and gas industry.
Support Systems Limited used the conference as a launch pad for her unique integrated HSE MS software, OMNISAFE. To grace the occasion was Mr. Shane Butt, Vice-president, Research and Development, Omniware Pty Ltd, Australia, the producers of OMNISAFE HSE software and OMNICOM Contract and Procurement Management software. Shane along with Support Systems HSE Advisor, Muyiwa Ogunbamowo, also presented a paper titled “Compliance Made Easy with Omnisafe HSE Software”.
Support Systems exhibition stand at the conference was a beehive of activities as many who attended the conference sought to know how Omnisafe can assist their organisation improve their HSE performance. Demonstration sessions were held to showcase the capabilities and functionalities of Omnisafe in the management of HSE.
Shane met with key officers of DPR, the JVC, the academia and the press. Support Systems plans to extend the demonstration of Omnisafe to clients’ facilities in 2009. Companies are welcome to indicate their interest to participate.

Support Systems Ltd attended the 7th African Association of Remote Sensing of the Environment ( AARSE) conference held in Accra, Ghana from the 24th to 30th October 2008. The AARSE conference is the biggest gathering of Remote Sensing experts and GIS users in Africa.
It was hosted by the Centre for Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Services (CERSGIS) Accra, Ghana with the theme “Application of Earth Observation and Geoinformation for Governance in Africa”.
Mr Foster Mensah, the Executive Director of CERSGIS was the conference Chairman.
The theme of the conference is of universal importance, and particularly relevant to Africa where the wide application of Geoinformation technologies in various fields has its potential to improve the quality of life of all residing on this continent.
The conference was declared open by the Vice President of Ghana.
The conference was enlightening, worthwhile and a success as a result of the excellent programme of plenary speakers, technical sessions, exhibition and social programmes put in place.
